When it comes to maintaining the longevity and integrity of your recreational vehicle (RV), one of the most critical aspects is the roof, as it's directly in contact with various weather conditions, UV rays, and other damaging elements that could lead to leaks and even severe structural damage over time. An RV roof sealant will help mitigate that exposure.
The first aspect to consider is what type of roof material your RV has. Most RV roofs use fiberglass, rubber (EPDM or TPO), or aluminum. It's essential to ensure the sealant you choose is compatible with your RV roof material to ensure proper adhesion and protection.
Next, consider the composition of the sealant. Common types include silicone, acrylic, and liquid rubber. Silicone sealants provide excellent adhesion, are highly durable, and withstand extreme weather conditions and UV exposure. Acrylic sealants are less expensive but may not offer the same level of durability. Liquid rubber, on the other hand, creates a waterproof and UV-resistant coating that can expand and contract with temperature fluctuations. A combination of silicone and liquid rubber sealants is the perfect mix for heavy-duty protection.
The ease of application is another crucial factor to remember when choosing a roof sealant. A liquid formula is ideal as you can roll, brush, or spray it onto the roof, and it features self-leveling capabilities, reducing the need for further spreading or smoothing.
The time it takes for a sealant to dry and form a solid protective layer is known as cure time, and this period varies between different sealants. Some sealants can cure within a few hours, while others, like silicone, might need up to 24 hours or longer. Some factors that can affect the cure time include temperature, humidity, and the thickness of the application.
The longevity of an RV roof sealant refers to how long it can protect before needing to be reapplied. High-quality sealants generally last for several years without needing to be reapplied. However, this can depend on the wear and tear on your RV, weather conditions, and the type of sealant used.
RV roof sealants also come in several colors, the most common of which are white, clear, and black. The color you choose can affect the temperature inside your RV (darker colors absorb more heat), while white sealants help reflect sunlight and keep the RV interior cool.
Ultimately, a roof sealant is an invisible shield standing tall against the harshest weather conditions, the tireless defender ensuring your road trips remain leak-free.

Our RV has a large front window that started to leak. On the roof we found a bubble indicating some sort of break in the seal. We used the RV tape to seal the hole as well as down the seam for added protection. It was easy to use and felt very durable. We have not noticed any further leaks and will still have plenty to use for future projects.

Read MoreI’ve got a class C RV and it always seems like there is a small water leak between the fiberglass seams. I’ve caulked everywhere and can’t seem to find the right spots. I finally got this repair tape as it is 4” wide, white and it seems to stick to anything. I’ve even used it at my house on a couple of problematic areas as well – pvc pipes that always seem to drip and leaking gutters.By the way, the tape does have a clear backing that has to be removed first before application. I recommend cutting the tape to size and then removing part of the backing, laying the uncovered part against the seam for alignment and then removing the backing as you press into place.Back to my RV - I’ve only taped a couple of tricky seams, but so far so good. I spray tested and it seems to hold. I may have found the right solution to my problem. Time will tell, but this stuff is super sticky and very tough. There is one catch, the packaging (and small print on the Amazon description) makes it clear this is not a permanent OUTSIDE solution as it is not UV stable. It requires another product as a coating to turn it into a permanent solution. The Amazon description clearly states this, but the main product heading is a little disingenuous as it leads you to believe this is all you need for a permanent solution. Just be prepared to coat it if it’s outside in the sun – not a deal breaker but it is another step.Anyway, it’s strong, can’t tear – you must cut it, it’s waterproof and super sticky. It’s white, but I’m using on a white roof so that is perfect for me. I’m impressed and would recommend.
Read MoreI have a rubber roof on my house that was starting to show some signs of wear and tear. I noticed some water stains on the ceiling and some cracks on the roof. I've been patching the leaks with Flexseal but found myself having to redo the patches on a regular basis. I was looking for a product that could help me fix the problem once and for all without spending too much money or hiring a professional. I came across the BEEST RV Roof Seam Tape and decided to give it a shot. I was amazed by how well it worked. It was very easy to use and adhered strongly to the rubber surface. I then applied some Flexseal to make it blend in with my black rubber roof. It stopped the leaks the first time and the leaks haven't since returned. They do sell a BEEST roof coating to apply on top of the tape to protect it from the sun and make it more durable. I used the Flexseal because I already had some from the gallon I originally purchased. The tape and the coating of Flexseal created a solid waterproofing system that I trust will last for a long time. My roof has been completely leak-free ever since. I’m very happy with the results and the quality of the products. I've read about BEEST and that it's a family-owned company that cares about its customers and makes excellent products in the USA and they stand behind them. I highly recommend this tape to anyone experiencing roof leaks. It can be used on many different types of roofs and for other uses as well. Good stuff!
