EDIT: Not really the fault of the machine or the designers, but this is the PERFECT scanner for procrastinators. I just scan the document to Raven Cloud, then ... well, then I intend to login and save the files to the appropriate places on my laptop. But so far I've just let many of them sit there, waiting. It should nag me with reminders or something "You haven't reviewed your scanned documents in X days." Still, a great device. Just not magic.I just received and set up the scanner, signed up for Raven Cloud, and started scanning. The assembly of the machine was easy except attaching the input tray, which was a little tricky to snap in. I connected the scanner to my home network via ethernet so I can't say how well the WiFi setup and connection works. It recognized the network instantly over ethernet.Scan quality is excellent (admittedly a small sample), OCR was outstanding - better than Adobe or anything else I've used. Speed is amazing - as long as I remember to press okay / send.OCR of a complex document (actually the quick start instructions for the scanner, laid out in "story boxes" with graphics) to a thumb drive took a while. Probably because OCR actually happens on the cloud and not on the machine. I think in the future if I want things OCR'd I'll send them to the Raven Cloud so it (hopefully) does not hold up processing on the scanner. The website is easy, intuitive, and snappy. Adding users and destinations is easy. Managing received files is easy. I have not played with the editing features on the site yet.First impressions - the scanner is a great value and so much easier to use than previous scanners I've owned, even easier than the expensive (thousands of dollars) multi-function devices in my place of employment. Definitely recommended.

This scanner is excellent for my small business usage. It scans high-quality images quickly. It works well for batch or daily scanning. Far better and faster than the slow Brotherof HP multifunction printer scans. The touchscreen is key, as you can select exactly what file folder, online folder, or email to send it to without going back to your pc to move it or send it.Many things I like about it:-Can be used stand-alone and scanned directly to a cloud folder in Google Drive, Dropbox and others.-It has a very nice touchscreen.-Scans Pages Fast (takes a few seconds to process after each scan).-I received several emails after registering to offer set-up support for free. I ended up agreeing to a 15-minute phone review where the person asking questions solved what I thought was a drawback of the machine (having a favorites selection to scan to select from a couple of google drive folders--turns out the group button can be used in that way)-Offers a Raven Storage Account at no cost, good if you're not using another online service.-A new little riddle or witty saying is displayed in the corner of the screen each time it wakes up, nothing to do with scanning, but it makes me smile. The Mark Twain of scanners, lol.I've been regularly scanning business documents for about 15 years and have used several scanners, and multi-function copiers (Konica, Toshiba). This is the best. This scanner is a good deal for the price.

**UPDATE 2022-04-05**Raven sent me a replacement scanner and a shipping label to send the defective one back. The new one is working great, very fast and pages are getting scanned completely with no issues. This company has an amazing level of customer support that I have not experienced in recent memory. Props to their support team, they're great!**Initial review**Just got the scanner. Positive: Very easy to set up and get connected to Wi-Fi. I logged into Raven Cloud and the scans are fast. HUGE NEGATIVE: Scanned pages get randomly cut off at the end when set to Auto page size. Ok, so I will manually set the page size to 8.5 x 11", that should solve it right? Nope. Now what was formerly cut off is just a blank section near the end. It's like it's out of calibration, when this happens it appears that the top of the page is shifted down more than it should be. There seems to be no way to calibrate the scanner.I have opened a support ticket with Raven and I've heard they have marvelous customer support. Hopefully this is true. As of right now I am unable to trust that scanned pages are complete without looking through each page, which is a pain on a 50+ page document.I opened an incident with Raven Support and they have determined there is a hardware issue with my scanner. They are going to be supplying a replacement. I have never received such a prompt and competent level of support as I have with this company. I will be sure to update this review when the scanner arrives.

I needed something to help me go paperless and was gladly surprised that the Raven Scanner Original 2 performed better than expected. It can work by itself without an computer, or one can download the Raven app and tell the scanner what to do from the computer. You can hook it up through either a USB cable, a network cable or through WiFi. The actual setup of the Raven account can be done through the scanner itself and its one of the easiest setups I've seen for a device like this. It will upload the scanned file to many destinations, including to and encrypted SOHO NAS. My scanner does actually a bit more than the 40 pages per minute advertised. What is the worst part of the Raven Original 2?Nothing much to report here. Maybe that very thin and small cash register slips that are like 2 inches and under wide can't be scanned vertically. Just shove that slip into the feeder horizontally and it will scan no problem. Don't worry, the scanner software will auto correct the orientation if set in the menu. Slips that are regular 3 inches wide, go through the scanner vertically like mad.Paper jams do happen, but that really depends on the paper and how long it sat in a certain position. I try to scan 20 - 30 pages at a time and fan the paper both sides before scanning, then just add the following scan to the previous scan to create a large PDF. The scanner combined multiple scans to one big PDF with 200 pages no problem. With big PDF's like this, it takes a little bit for the scan to appear to what ever folder or cloud service you sent it to, I guess due to processing.Over all I am really glad I've got my scanner and give it all thumbs up. So far I wore my shredder out, all the scanner needed was the occasional cleaning of the imager (paper dust from shredding beside the scanner and the old paper by itself). What is the outstanding stuff? The Raven Support. Hands down. Try it. Nuff said.

Needed to scan a number of documents and didn’t want to use existing flatbed scanner. Had been looking at the Fujitsu and then saw this and decided the better price was worth a shot.I am really impressed. Easy setup, loads of guides and tutorials and the ability to send to so many destinations as pre-sets is great. The unit is more compact than I expected which is a bonus.Really pleased so far.

Amazing Scanner!Bought one for another family member, was so blown away by the easy of setup, ease of use, the fantastic workflow, that I then bought a second one for myself.I have had Fujitsu and Epson scanners in the past. This scanner by far, hands down was the easiest to set up and use. This scanner I have set up to work wirelessly so I am not constrained by how long my USB cord is. The speed & ease of the workflow is handsdown better and faster than any other scanner I have used before. Place a sheet or several sheets to scan, press scan. Then right on the screen, you can name the file, you don’t have to do it on the computer, then hit save and it is stored on your computer or the cloud service of your choice. Raven cloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, One Drive, etc. If you scan 4 pages then realize you forgot a sheet, it lets you add to the 5 page. You can Fax, send to email, or in my set up it goes to my FTP to my personal drive. You are able to do this without needing to send it to the computer first and then saving and then uploading to your storage medium. Bonus on top of everything, it has OCR built in so you can now easily search anything you have scanned, including handwritten scanned items.Raven is the Tesla of scanners, they are pioneering Scanners, like Tesla is for EV’s.Their customer support is second to none. If you have a questions, you can call, email or text. Seriously, you can text! Reply is very quick. I asked for directions to set up the unit to work with my FTP set up. Was sent the directions, which were easy to follow with actual images that match my current OS. Made the necessary updates and it works, the directions actually work, what a refreshing treat. If you need a scanner, this is the one to get!

I have used scanners to run my office for the past 10 years, so I have been mostly paperless for 10 years. My Brother Printer scanner failed and I am tired of buying new printers, so I looked for a different solution. This scanner has great reviews and offers some extra benefits that others miss. First, they have a free place to upload and store your scans, that is HIPPA Compliant. Second, when using their storage, you can fax a document from there for free. For me, that will be extremely handy. Third, the scanner can be moved to a different computer or laptop, whenever I want. Fourth, they have actual product support, so if you need help, there is a number to call and actual humans that answer. Fifth, the price is more than reasonable, it is low for what you get. When I scan and store my documents, I can easily find them any time I need, without going thru a paper file cabinet. Also, if you want to scan large documents, you can put several pdf's together using software on their site, including free OCR software. And, lastly, the item that wears out most on any scanner is a pick-up roller, and they include an extra one with the scanner. I am impressed that this product was well thought out for the benefit of the user.

First, I was looking for a compact scanner to sit on my desk that would not take much room but the most important thing was being able to send multiple pages at once. I was kind of skeptical at 1st but then to my surprise, it worked just as stated and then some!! It is very easy to install and utilize.I was pleasantly surprised at not only it being able to scan multiple pages at once but sending to multiple destinations such as your email, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc…The last thing, I am in a small office with the need of a scanner but I was also looking at adding a fax line also; for those people that just don’t have email (who would think it) or want paperwork faxed.Guess What? I can also add a fax number in the destination part of the scanner and fax it with no additional equipment!Very happy with purchase, price point is awesome! Will definitely recommend.

I bought this to replace my old Fujitsu Scansnap S1300i. That machine was an excellent value in a compact scanner, and the new Raven's hardware exceeds it in every way. Faster, better resolution, and with a bit more options from the front panel button. My only complaint is that the software isn't quite as good. It has a million and a half options for saving files, which is a nice feature, but I don't need any of them; just dump the PDFs to a directory. The "auto-save" doesn't always work, so I have to click twice to save a scan, and sometimes it fails with no obvious reason. I can retry the save, without redoing the scan, and that always works. Tech support is pretty responsive, but they haven't been able to solve this one yet. Also, when you click on "Start Scan", it takes a few seconds for it to actually start scanning. This is a lot more frustrating that I would have expected.

The scanner is quick and the quality is excellent. Only issue is that the pages do not feed out enough so when scanning it doesn't stack the way it was fed; one pages slides under the other instead of on top. It's not a major thing but just a little inconvenient that I have to stay near to organize the document after it scans. I have contacted Support and will update my review once they've contacted me.Update: After speaking with Support, I was informed that I could scan without having the bottom flap open. So now the scanner works wonderfully, I am so happy with my purchase!

Ordered this to keep my household documents straight rather than in a pile. Easy to set up and simple to use. This scans both sides fairly quickly and takes up very little room on my workstation at home. Options for where the scans are sent can be chosen from the scanner, and I'm looking forward to setting up the Raven Cloud account so OCR is available. Be testing out scanning old pictures soon, too, so I can safely store the shoeboxes. The only thing I could want more would be another foot on the power cord, but that's on me for where I wanted to put it. It would be plenty long enough in any other situation. Even happier that it's a US company.

I like how it is compact. Just beware it may not work with old operating mac systems. I had to update my mac for it to work. Additionally, it does this weird thing where every time I want to scan something, I have to re-install it and it has to search and find it. Takes about 5 to 10 minutes to load, find wi-fi, re-install. Thereafter, I can scan. Kind of annoying. Also usb cable doesn't work. Other than that, works good.

I had to replace my old perfectly functioning Brother Desktop Scanner when an Apple update to my Mac required updating of the drivers for that equipment. After waiting a few months to allow Brother to update the driver I gave up and purchased the Raven Compact Scanner but only after verifying that it was supported for Mac use. Glad I did. After a little trial and error to learn the new equipment I'm happy to say the Raven works as good as or better than my old device. Scans quickly, handles multiple page documents easily and produces good digital files to store. A very good value for the price.

I did not want to spend over $300 on a scanner that I will be a lot of over the next few week as a I catch up on scanning years of statements, then use sparingly. The software and scan speed (@ 300dpi) are great. I did have a problem installing the Twain driver as Norton Security was blocking it as a threat. Also there were two parts in the box which i could add to the scanner, no big deal. This a great scanner.

I bought this scanner after having used a Neat Desktop scanner for many years because Neat dropped support for MacOS Ventura, claiming they couldn't get their drivers working. This has been their excuse for many Mac OS revisions. Neat stopped selling scanners years ago and finally pulled the plug on driver support. I hadn't heard of Raven until browsing Neat's supported scanners page. Now that I've used it for a bit, I can say I'm very pleased with the scan speed and quality. As a home user who just does occasional document and receipt scanning, spending $500 or more on a replacement scanner from other brands, or even more advanced ones from Raven, was excessive. I'm very pleased with this scanner as a direct replacement for the old Neat Desktop. Raven's own software integrates with Neat and they also have their own document cloud service which is much more capable than Neat, but it has no way to migrate/import from Neat.Pros for the Raven Standard- Price- Very compact when folded up- Fast- High page capacity- High-quality scans. Better than the Neat Desktop scanner- Supported on the latest and several previous MacOS versions- Raven Desktop (software) lets you see a lot of technical information about the scanner- TWAIN drivers can be installed separately from Raven Desktop, so Raven Desktop isn't required if you don't want itNit-picky (couldn't necessarily call these cons)- Compared to the Neat Desktop scanner, you load the documents upside down and flipped. Not really a con, per se, but just something to get used to. If you never used a Neat Desktop scanner this won't affect you. I couldn't find a way in the Raven Desktop software to change the default setting to make its paper orientation like the Neat Desktop.- To use Raven Desktop, you must create a Raven account. It does come with a basic capture tool what will let you scan to files.- You'll need to adjust the paper size guides when switching between documents and receipts. They are plastic, but feel like good-quality. The Neat Desktop scanner had specific slots for documents and receipts, but far less capacity. If you're looking for a Neat Desktop scanner replacement, especially if you use a Mac, I definitely recommend the Raven Standard.

You'd be better off finding a different scanner brand! The mechanics of the scanner itself seems to be pretty good. However, the desktop interface is garbage! It's not very intuitive on how to save scanned images to a local drive and it's constantly wanting you to save to the Raven cloud! I bought this for a business and document security is a major concern with my company. With this scanner, you can't even download the drivers without creating a Raven cloud account first. And now since I've installed the desktop and drivers, just logging into Amazon has been effected, as if something in the drivers or desktop is mining data. If you do not have an internet connection to your PC, you will not be able to scan. In my frustration, I started to uninstall the drivers and desktop program and my virus protection program intercepted a virus that was embedded within Raven's setup.exe program! I highly suspect that there is data mining occurring with this system every time a scan is made. If you value your security, do not buy this product!

My pricey Fujitsu was retired due to the melting rollers issue that seemed to plague some of their machines. While it lasted a long time I was not keen on plunking down 5 + Benjamins for another one. Saw the Raven on sale. It looked basic but had good reviews. I can tell you after almost a year of use I am more than satisfied with the scanner. Right price point, makes good scans. The cons versus Fujitu are the software doens't come close (cant pause and add to scan and long sheets are a problem) and the machine doesnt come with the plastic sheet. Build quality is not as good as Fujitsu as the Raven is mostly plastic and thinner plastic. Some sharp edges in places and hinges not as smooth but who cares given the price and functionalty of the machine. Pros if you use them are cloud storage is free. Would recommend purchase.Update: Can't count the number of sheets scanned but I just scanned 3 years worth of work documents and can vouch for this scanners efficiency and durability. There is no reason to buy Fujitsu unless you like wasting money. Reiterate BUY rating with ideal purhcase price around $220 or better.

The scanner works great and in accordance with the advertised features, so it is a good value. My two favorite features are: option to set the scanner to check for double sided pages, and; the scanner will OCR the pages into searchable format so I don't have to do that separately. My only issue (I have the USB only connection, no bluetooth) is that if I switch between using the scanner with my desktop and my laptop, I usually have to uninstall and reinstall the entire program (app) and run setup again because the scanner will not connect and the USB connection cannot be found. I had to contact online support to figure this out, and now find that I have to uninstall, reinstall and run the setup every time I change computers. If I did not have this issue, I would rate this scanner a 5. The good news is that the online support was very good. I have recommended this scanner to business associates, with the caution of the glitch mentioned above.

I bought the Raven Original based on reviews. No problem downloading software, although my antivirus did consider one of the dll files malware. Had to put it on the exclusions list in order to install the software. Easy set up of scan destinations and with 'auto send' function, it worked out well. The problem with this unit is the it constantly loses USB connectivity even though the USB is still connected. Had to unplug the USB multiple times, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect to get the Raven to see the connection. Total waste of time. Also, the unit jams quite a bit and this with aligned receipts. Rollers ate several receipts and turned them into accordions.I'll be returning this unit and purchasing another.

Was unsure to buy a scanner called raven. Thought maybe an HP would be better checked the reviews on YouTube. It looked good. Price was right. It was multi scan and two sided. I was tired of using my printer to scan . It was a real pain. Got this raven scanner and was impressed. It is light weight. Easy to set up for a nerd like me and easy to get going and send scan. Really quick for multi page whereas my printer was slow and labour intensive.Pluses you have unlimited cloud storage on raven cloud. With PDF with it various enhancements which saves money. Also they called me to see how I was doing. Said if I have any suggestions let them know. The 20 bucks is ok. But was quite impressed with the entire set up. No regrets at all has really made scanning easy.

Buying Guide

Pro document scanners are great for anyone who spends a lot of time scanning things. Pro scanners usually feature lots of extra benefits like touch screens and flatbed scanning ports. Of course, before you buy one of these desktop helpers, you’ll want to be on the lookout for a few things. First, you’ll want to consider the price. Some pro document scanners can cost nearly $1000 making them a huge investment. This is why you’ll need to be sure of your budget and what you absolutely need in a scanner before purchasing. Next, consider if it has a flatbed. Scanner flatbeds allow you to scan larger things like books. If you don’t have any plans on doing that, it’s better to get one without since it’ll most likely be cheaper. Another thing to consider is the user interface. Do you want a touchscreen scanner or a standard scanner? Do you want to be able to use it without the computer? These are all important specs to keep in mind when shopping. The next thing to think about is the speed. Usually, people who are shopping for pro models want something fast. If you’re one of those people, look for something that can scan around 60 documents per minute. The last thing to look out for is the feeder size. If you find yourself scanning a lot of things at once, you may want to grab a pro scanner that can fit around 100 pages. If you don’t think you’ll need that, there are plenty of smaller options out there that can still fit quite a bit of paper.

"EDIT: Not really the fault of the machine or the designers, but this is the PERFECT scanner for procrastinators. Definitely recommended."

"This scanner is excellent for my small business usage. This scanner is a good deal for the price."
