Now that we are well into gardening season, I can't say enough good things about this seed square. I'm a new gardener and this tool has made my novice efforts so much better. I have a squarefoot garden so it's perfect. The color coding on this tray works wonderfully with all the planning and strategy for the squarefoot garden. The color coding was my favorite characteristic of this tool because if a vegetable calls for a specific number of plants per square foot, you can easily look to see which spacing (aka color) is best suited for it. It's simple enough that my daughters can help and it adds a fun element to planting. It comes with a dibber and funnel too. The dibber fits perfectly into the marked holes while the funnel is attached. It has measurements on the side to poke holes the proper depth. It also has a seed scoop on the opposite end of the dibber which made it much easier to work with smaller seeds. The funnel turned out to be very useful as well. It's easy to lose seeds, so it's nice that they fell right in to where they needed to go.New and experienced gardeners may find a "soil blocker" useful as well for your inside spring starters. It's a contraption that punches your moist soil into cubes. There's different size blocks you can get. The one I found had dibber attachments so it prepped the blocks perfectly. It prevents your plants from getting root bound in their containers during the early germination phase because you don't put them in containers. I put the soil blocks in trays under grow lights and bottom watered. Just search "soil blocker".

My wife loves this! We installed new raised beds lst summer. My wife bought this to aid in laying out her Square Foot garden plan and it’s perfect for where to place seeds or starts. The dibble is marked to show the recommended planting depth and it works perfectly with the planting square to place seeds and starts. She highly recommends this product for beginner Square Foot gardeners.

Points for being a well-made, quality product that will last years and certainly is an aide in the garden. Sturdy; definitely stands up to the abuse of garden and shed storage. I love how quickly it made to figure out the spacing and mark where to plant. REALLY makes it fast - with some modification. The design features that first looked so attractive like the funnel turned out to be completely useless. Also, the dibbler is marked in inches, despite most seeds needing to be planted far shallower and never deeper.Because you are often seeding at a far shallower depth than 1", it's really hard to tell 1/4" or 1/2" with the square in place. Soil, despite your best efforts, will not be plate-glass smooth and flat, and the measurements on the dibbler do not account for the thickness of the square's plastic. I found it easiest to use the square to mark my holes with the dibbler, remove it, and then fine-tune the depth. The holes are PLENTY big to drop a seed or two into without having to use the funnel. The dibbler also has a feature to put the seed into it like a spoon to then put the seeds into your hole; this is so fussy, you could have the whole square planted by the time you get one done using this method.

Choosing the Best Seed Spacer for Healthy, Well-Spaced Crops

Manual or handheld seed spacers are devices or tools designed to help gardeners evenly space seeds when planting. These seed spacers ensure proper seed distribution, which promotes optimal growth and reduces the need for thinning later on.

Check Adjustability

Look for a manual seed spacer with adjustable settings to accommodate different seed sizes and spacing requirements. This flexibility allows you to tailor the tool to various crops and planting configurations.

Think About Ease of Use

Choose a seed spacer with an ergonomic design and intuitive controls for ease of use. Comfortable handles and smooth operation enhance usability, especially during extended planting sessions.

Choose Durability

Select a manual seed spacer made from durable materials such as sturdy plastic or metal. Quality construction ensures longevity and reliable performance throughout the planting season.

Check Seed Capacity

Consider the seed capacity of the spacer, which determines the number of seeds it can hold at once. Choose a spacer with an appropriate seed capacity based on the size of your garden and planting requirements.

Look for Compactness

Choose a seed spacer that is compact and easy to store when not in use. Space-saving designs are convenient for gardeners with limited storage space or those who prefer portable gardening tools.

Don’t Forget About Cleaning and Maintenance

Consider the ease of cleaning and maintenance when choosing a manual seed spacer. Look for models with detachable components or smooth surfaces that are easy to wipe clean after use.
