A Magic Mesh Screen Door offers a simple yet effective solution for keeping bugs out while allowing fresh air to circulate throughout your home. It provides an easy-to-install and hands-free option for doorways, making it perfect for households with pets or children. The magnetic closure ensures that the screen snaps shut automatically after you pass through, maintaining a seamless barrier against insects.
Material Quality
The durability of your Magic Mesh Screen Door largely depends on the material. High-quality polyester or nylon mesh is often preferred due to its resilience against wear and tear, ensuring longevity even with frequent use. Polyester is typically more durable and resistant to UV rays, making it ideal for outdoor use. Nylon mesh, while slightly less durable than polyester, offers excellent flexibility and can withstand heavy usage, making it suitable for high-traffic areas.
Size and Fit
Measure your door frame accurately and choose a screen door that matches these dimensions. Some products offer adjustable sizing options, which can be particularly useful if you have non-standard door sizes. A snug fit prevents gaps that could let insects in, maintaining an effective barrier. It’s important to choose a screen that is slightly larger than your door frame to ensure a tight seal.
Magnetic Closure
Strong magnets spaced evenly along the edges ensure the screen snaps shut quickly and securely after each use. This feature is essential for maintaining a hands-free operation and ensuring that the screen door remains closed, keeping bugs out. Look for screens with reinforced magnets for a more reliable seal. In addition to magnets, some screens incorporate gravity sticks to help the screen close even in windy conditions.
Ease of Installation
A user-friendly installation process is vital for convenience. Screens that come with detailed instructions, adhesive Velcro strips, and optional push pins for extra security are generally easier to install. This allows you to set up the screen door without professional help, saving time and effort. An easy installation also means you can remove and reinstall the screen as needed, such as during seasonal changes. Velcro strips offer a temporary solution, while push pins provide a more permanent and secure fit.
Pet and Child-Friendly Features
If you have pets or young children, choose a Magic Mesh Screen Door designed with them in mind. Durable mesh that withstands claws and rough use is important, as is a low-threshold design that allows pets and children to pass through easily. Some screens come with additional features like pet doors or reinforced lower panels to prevent damage from frequent use by pets. Heavy-duty mesh is ideal for pets, while soft mesh is better suited for children to pass through without difficulty.
Aesthetics and Design
While functionality is paramount, the design and aesthetics of the Magic Mesh Screen Door can enhance the look of your home. Choose a screen that complements your door frame and overall home décor. Available in various colors and styles, you can find a screen door that not only serves its purpose but also adds to the visual appeal of your living space. Some screens offer decorative patterns or trims that can match the style of your home, while others focus on a minimalist look for a modern touch.

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO MY ORIGINAL REVIEW:The original mesh was a little too small for my door. I realize now that this was my fault and not the fault of the product. Since it did not fit properly, it did not always close correctly and it soon developed a tear in the bottom corner. The tear was more than just an inconvenience, but my dogs' heads sometimes got stuck in the hole and they would be trapped in the mesh until I realized it and freed them.Since the hole was becoming an issue for the dogs' safety, but I still needed a mesh on the porch door, I ordered a second and discovered that I could order a larger size. (I know, "DUH" right?) This was even easier to put up since I knew how to do it and since the velcro tape was still on the door frame from the previous mesh. The sticky stuff was still strong and I just had to adjust the location a little and supplement them with new tape. The it was just pull down the old mesh and put up the new mesh. The new mesh fits perfectly and works near perfectly. There is sometimes a gap at the bottom that does not close all the way. If I nudge it with my foot, it usually closes immediately. I would say that the mesh closes all the way better than 90% of the time. So, taking into consideration that the right size makes for a more enjoyable experience, I am bumping it up to FIVE STARS. It is still not perfect (but what is?), but it does the job and is better than "good enough."ORIGINAL REVIEW:During nice weather, I enjoy spending all my time in my enclosed back porch, overlooking my large back yard, listening and witnessing the nature outside my window. It was fairly easy to put up. It is a bit narrow for the door on which I need it.I also have three dogs, and when I am working, I was left with the choice of leaving them inside, enclosing them on the porch, or leaving them outside. When outside, they are cut off from their food, and even though there is a large dog house, only two dogs will use it.My remedy as of late has been to prop open the porch door that leads outside, so that the dogs can come and go as they wish to eat or to get out of the sun or rain. The downside is that it leaves a giant opening for insects and whatever else wants to venture in.I saw a commercial for the Magic Mesh and figured I'd give it a shot. If it works, it would solve the problem until the weather turns cold again. Frankly, I thought the one on TV was the one I was buying. It is not. This is not the one that "clicks," but it is the same basic idea.So now for the part you care about.THE PROS:*It basically does what it says it does*The material seems durable. I'll let you know how much after a month or so. But for the most part it can handle my dogs going in and out regularly (my one year old blasts through it quickly and forcefully and it stays firm.*The glue holding the velcro strips onto the door frame is strong, and there is plenty of extra of the velcro strip to replace any pieces that fall away over time.*The dogs are not afraid of it. When first installed, my dogs just assumed it was a closed door. I gently guided them through it a few times and they figured it out -- some more quickly than others. Part of the trick for the dogs' learning is that they have been conditioned that doors open at the sides, so they were nosing around the door frame looking for an opening, rather than in the middle. After a few days, they all pretty much had it figured out.THE CONS:*It is narrow and almost does not fit the door frame. I do not believe that the door frame is extra large. The screen can be adjusted on the velcro to get a tight fit.*It takes a bit of adjusting and repositioning to get the screen to be tight but also still be able for the magnets to close it.*There are gaps around the side. So, once it is set up how you want it, you will probably want to seal around the edges with packing tape or something to seal off the gaps and keep smaller insects out.CONCLUSION:It's not perfect. But if you are willing to live in the world of "Good Enough" then it is perfect enough. It basically does what it says it does, just not as perfectly as suggested. Those imperfections can be dealt with by supplementing the installation with things like tape around the borders.I will post a follow up comment as time goes by to inform consumers of how long it lasted and of any issues that developed over time.

Extremely easy installation. I installed it too low so I had to redo it at the top, but at my own fault. Velcro was very strong. Adhesion of the Velcro seems fairly good right now, but not sure how it will hold up. Magnetic closure in the middle is great and quick.

Read MoreProduct arrived in good condition as described. It is installed and working pretty well, with few caveats or shortcomings.First, on install one minor point is that I wish the velcro strips were pre-cut to the correct length. This was just an unnecessary step that you'd think could be done in bulk more quickly and accurately. It was kind of tricky to do because the strips were curled up so tightly and the backing tended to bunch up. But again, this is just a minor point and added only about 10 minutes to the install because I wanted to be so careful to get it right. If you're off a little on each cut your last piece could end up being a problem.Second, the adhesive on the velcro is very, very sticky. It pulled off the paint when I tried to make a minor adjustment -- I didn't even realize it had already adhered when I tried to fix the alignment. This was my fault, but the paint adhered so strongly to the velcro it was now not sticky in that spot. No pressure, but you really do have to get the velcro placement right the very first time. There is no extra in the package to correct for mistakes -- that would be my only request, although I didn't request any from the company either. They do include about a dozen small tack nails that I used liberally in the spot where I messed up so that worked fine. On a side note, if I ever permanently remove the screen I know I have to fill the nail holes and repaint the entire door frame.During use, we have two more minor issues.First, when entering through the screen, the magnets always latch onto the door which is a standard metal residential door. Haven't really found a way around this other than manually detaching it each time going through. Exiting is not a problem since the screen is pushed away from the door. If our house layout permitted, opening the door more would likely reduce the occurrence.Second, the nature of the design puts a lot of stress at the top, center of the screen and on that line of velcro. Maybe we installed the screen to tight, but we tried to just follow directions which call for moderate tension. It's hard to describe, but the tension is such that the opening at the top is very narrow and tall people have to really duck to get through. When people don't duck going through it pulls the screen off the velcro after a couple passes and has to be repositioned. I was thinking that having a small amount of "give" in the screen center line might alleviate this problem if they could find elastic which never lost its spring.I would have gone down to 3-stars on this if I could think of any better solutions to the above usage limitation (the install problems could be corrected). I've never seen one of these used in person other than this one, so I can't compare to the competition. Overall the quality of the materials and workmanship seem top notch. It doesn't look or feel cheap once installed. One note to keep in mind is that it blocks more light than a typical traditional screen. Compared to the adjacent screened window, it is quite a bit darker. Probably a necessity given that it needs to be more durable. We like it and our young kids have a ball it. I'd recommend it to others with the above caveats.
